Program description

For as long as humans have been on Earth, we have collaborated with plants for food, medicine, shelter, and ritual. Plant knowledge has been passed down generationally through stories and texts and has served as our primary form of health care until recently. It’s time to reconnect to our herbal histories and trust the wisdom and offerings of our collaborators, helpers, and teachers: the plants.

In this program, you will:

  • Learn about the properties and uses of over 50 medicinal and culinary herbs
  • Discover how to make herbal medicines for internal and external uses
  • Become proficient at customizing herb blends for yourself and others
  • Learn how to identify both wild and cultivated plants
  • Learn simple backyard permaculture garden design and maintenance techniques to ensure that you can grow and harvest an abundance of quality medicinal plants
  • Learn seed-saving techniques to ensure a long-term, sustainable supply of medicinal plants
  • Witness herbs used in ceremony and learn how to connect to past generations of herbalists and your herbal ancestry
  • Discover how to create your own herbal first aid kit by learning which plants and preparations are best suited for various emergency ailments
  • Become knowledgeable about how to identify, harvest, and use medicinal mushrooms
  • Understand how to incorporate aromatic medicines (essential oils) into your herbal practices and routines
  • Get excited about creating your herbal business and sharing your gifts with your community and beyond

This program is designed to ground you in the art and science of herbal medicine. Upon completion of this experience, you will be fully capable of taking care of many of your and your family’s health care needs. The Community Herbalist program contains all of the courses within the Home Herbalist program plus 10 more.

“The CHP program opened up so many opportunities to me that I didn’t realize existed before. I now make my own medicine and teach others how to make their own too. This sustainable knowledge is so useful to promote medicine security. Thank you so much for an amazing program!”

“The CHP program was such a valuable experience for me. I cannot express how gratifying it is to possess the knowledge to grow plants and make my own medicine! It is empowering and I can’t imagine life without this knowledge!”

What our students are saying…

The Community Herbalist Certificate program changed my life in such a positive way. It opened my eyes to the incredible world of plant medicine and encouraged growth within myself. I would recommend this program to anyone seeking to gain further knowledge of plant medicine to support their own health, the health of their loved ones and their community.

“I can’t stop thinking about all the amazing knowledge that I gained. I have been already able to use a lot of what I learned helping friends and even my family in Brazil ! It also motivated me to pursue more knowledge and go deeper into some of the contents.”

“The Community Herbalist Certificate program provided a strong foundation to grow my passion for herbal medicine. The wisdom and experience shared by the instructors, and the balance of scientific, traditional and spiritual knowledge is invaluable.”
