Hello! I’m Jenelle, and so far I’m enjoying the HHP courses, and thinking I’ll be upgrading to the CH program soon:) My background.. I’m a mom to a 3 year old, and also newly a grandma through my husband’s oldest son.
I’m also a consulting arborist, a master organic gardener, a beekeeper, and have a horticulture diploma from many years ago. I love plants, trees, insects and of course, soil.
Formally learning about herbal medicine seems like a natural progression for me. I’ve been into urban gardening for a couple decades, and 2 years ago we bought a little hobby farm in Nanoose Bay. It’s been a dream creating an extensive vegetable, pollinator and herb garden. I save the majority of my own seed, and sell some of the seed, plants and veggies. I practice a mixture of permaculture and organic gardening, and a regenerative ag field rotation for our small herd of goats, sheep and chickens.
I’m really excited to add both plant material and knowledge to our gardens, and be able to better understand, engage with, and use more appropriately (and extensively) many of the plants we already grow. For example, I always crave eating nettles in the spring. The scent and whole experience of harvesting them, cooking and eating with them is a happy, fulfilling, grounding experience every year. After listening to the nettles lesson today, and learning more of their cleansing and nourishing properties, it explains the annual excitement and experience.
I’m thankful I’ll be able to share some home created medicinals with my daughter and grandkids.. I’m sure they will love helping me create too!
I’m looking forward to learning more as we go, and hopefully meeting and connecting with others along the way.
