Hi Tesia,
I understand what you are going through here, since I once thought of doing cocktail bitters to get more bitter into peoples lives. 🙂
Depending on how you are selling them, I think there is a way to combine both. Calling them cocktail bitters doesn’t necessarily take away from their medicinal actions and it will increase use by some people that wouldn’t normally take a ‘herbal formula’, however then they are unlikely to be used outside of a cocktail.
I think that you could just call them simply ‘bitters’ which they are and include some history, use ideas and info on the label and any marketing you are doing. They can be used as cocktail bitter, or in carbonated water , or shrub, or as they are ones tongue. This can be written in a way that is more about historical use yet is truthful in how they benefit the digestion (on labels). Aperitif were taken for that very reason. Then on social media/ marketing, it could be written more as an educational post about bitter plants and the history and current use of bitters.
I hope this is of some help and helps complete the circle. I feel like they don’t have to be separated in nature (herbal bitters vs cocktail bitters) and it is an opportunity for some education.
With warmth,
Benna
