Dr. Lucas holds a Ph.D. in Research Psychology as well as her degree in Chinese Medicine. Lucas has more than 20 years of teaching and speaking experience and is described as “a dynamic speaker who keeps her classes engaged and who can explain complex information in an understandable way.” She teaches Pulse Diagnosis and Biofeedback System to medical doctors and Practitioners of TCM who want to be better diagnosticians. She also teaches the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System that includes a section on treating obesity and fertility challenges in men and women, an acupuncture point course where she shares functions as well as unique point prescriptions, and a course on treating autoimmune disorders. Her private practice is based in Denver, Colorado where she specializes in internal medicine and she also sees patients at Littleton Internal Medicine Associates in Littleton Colorado.
This course explains the various functions of acupuncture points from different traditions. You will re-learn your acupuncture points in a fresh and new manner. You will learn about:
1. Introduction
Get to know Dr. Martha Lucas as she shares with you her journey working with Chinese Medicine for the past 20 years. Discover what you can look forward to learning in this course and how to use the course notes.
2. Lung / Hand Tai Yin Points LU1 (Zhongfu) – LU3 (Tianfu)
Beginning with the lung channel, Dr. Lucas guides you through the physiological and emotional functions of these points. Many acupuncturists become comfortable with only 25 points and tend to use them continuously. Dr. Lucas aims to bring attention to some of the lesser-used points and how to use them in creative combinations. Learn some unique point recipes for treating anxiety, supporting emotional expression, and treating digestive complaints.
3. Lung / Hand Tai Yin Points – LU4 (Xiabai) – LU11 (Shaoshang)
As a continuation of the previous section, Dr. Lucas continues a review of the points along the lung channel. Learn about why some lung points are not as effective on their own and need to be combined with other points. Dr. Lucas shares point combinations for physical conditions such as nagging cough, acid reflux, carpel tunnel, headache, and many others, as well as combinations for supporting the maintenance of emotional boundaries. Learn what point Dr. Martha ends all of her treatments with to support cognitive function and memory and why she occasionally uses gold needles in specific points.
4. Arm Yangming (Bright Yang) – LI20 (Yingxiang) – LI10 (Shousanli)
Dr. Lucas takes you on a journey though the large intestine meridian, addressing physical and emotional conditions that can be treated with points on this channel. Dr. Lucas reminds you about the importance of using both Yin and Yang points in combination during treatments. Unique point combinations are presented for treating rheumatoid arthritis, pneumonia, menstrual pain, and many more conditions.
5. The Luo Points
An overview of the Luo points is presented in this section. Dr. Lucas explains how she uses these points to treat emotional issues. She provides guidance for treating fear, anxiety, PTSD, and anger. Learn how to use the Luo points in combination to help your patients with their emotional challenges.
6. Arm Yangming (Bright Yang) – LI9 (Shanglian) – LI1 (Shangyang)
A continuation of examining the points of the large intestine channel. Dr. Lucas further discusses the connection between repressed emotions and their physical manifestations. Any point used to release emotional stagnation can also used to move Qi and release physical stagnation. Learn about creative ways of opening the Dai Mai to allow energy to flow through the body.
7. Stomach Channel / Foot Yangming (Bright Yang) – ST1 (Chengqi) – ST45 (Lidui)
Dr. Lucas guides you through the stomach channel and discusses the importance of supporting the digestive system of patients. Learn how to uses these points for addressing issues ranging from physical conditions surrounding fertility to emotional imbalances. Discover what point is specifically indicated to use energetically to help patients digest and process life events.
8. Stomach Channel Point Combinations
Discover unique point combinations using the stomach channel for breast issues, lung disease, and common digestive complaints. Dr. Lucas explains why certain points are effective to use synergistically.
9. Spleen Channel, Foot Taiyin, Greater Yin – SP1 (Yinbai) – SP21 (Dabao)
Dr. Lucas guides you through the points along the spleen channel. Learn about interesting combinations to use with the spleen points for conditions ranging from allergies to sprained ankles. Dr. Lucas provides an interesting technique to clear stagnation and support the middle Jiao.
10. Heart, Hand Shaoyin, Lesser Yin – HT1 (Jiquan) – HT9 (Shaochong)
The heart channel is discussed in this section. Dr. Lucas discusses physical and emotional conditions that can be addressed by working with this channel and presents unique heart point combinations to tonify the heart and calm the Shen.
11. Small Intestine, Greater Yang, Hand Taiyang – SI1 (Shaoze) – SI19 (Tinggong)
This section provides a thorough review on the uses of the small intestine points. Find out which nourishing, tonifying point is specifically indicated to use with elderly patients. Discover which point Dr. Lucas uses to treat the flu and learn some combinations to use for swollen breasts and hearing loss.
12. Kidney, Lesser Yin, Foot Shaoyin – KI1 (Yong Quan) – KI27 (Shufu)
Discover which point is one of Dr. Lucas’ favourite in the kidney channel. Learn about points to use for brain trauma and insomnia and some specific needling techniques to use on points in this channel. Dr. Lucas discusses some common emotional complaints she sees in patients and how she works with needles on this channel to support mental health. You will gain information about combinations to use for hypertension and clearing stagnated emotions.
13. Pericardium, Absolute Yin, Hand Jueyin -PC1 (Tianchi) – PC9 (Zhongchong)
Dr. Lucas explores the points of the pericardium channel. Learn about which point to use for patients with heart fire, manifesting as insomnia and anxiety. Combinations with the pericardium channel can be used for spermatorrhea, heart palpitations, digestive issues, and to open the spirit to increase the capacity for joy in patients.
14. San Jiao, Triple Burner, Lesser Yang, Hand Shaoyang – SJ1 (Guanchong) – SJ23 (Sizhukong)
The San Jiao channel is underused and often forgotten. As Dr. Lucas explains, it is the channel that can connect the upper, middle, and lower body and holds points that can be used to benefit a wide range of conditions. Learn some of Dr. Lucas’ needling techniques to use with these points. Dr. Lucas presents some interesting information about how acupuncture changes the brain and how targeting specific San Jiao points can be used to calm a busy, overthinking mind. Discover unique combinations to use for hearing problems, skin rashes, liver Qi stagnation, and weight loss.
15. Gallbladder, Lesser Yang, Leg Shaoyang GB1 (Tongziliao) – GB44 (Zuqiaoyin)
Dr. Lucas uses the gallbladder channel to treat conditions in the brain. Learn about what points to use for headaches, facial swelling, muscle spasms, fear and anxiety, and many other issues. Dr. Lucas explains why she uses this channel to treat liver Qi stagnation. Discover unique combinations for hepatitis, hypertension, and a stiff neck.
16. Liver, Absolute Yin, Foot Jueyin – Liv1 (Dadun) – Liv14 (Qimen)
Dr. Lucas provides a thorough review of the uses for each point on the liver channel. Learn about which liver points Dr. Lucas uses to build self-confidence and treat fertility challenges, coughs and bronchitis, and many other conditions. Combinations to use with liver points can target eye and reproductive issues, damp heat, and gallstones.
17. Bladder / Foot Taiyang – BL1 (Jingming) – BL67 (Zhiyin)
As the final channel, Dr. Lucas guides you through the points along the bladder meridian. Learn about how to use the bladder points in combination for hepatitis, low back pain, and to treat kidney Yang deficiency.
18. Conclusion
Most acupuncturists use the same 25 points in their entire career. Dr. Lucas created this course to refresh you on your point repertoire so you can practice more effectively and creatively.
